Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller Sign Divorce Agreement

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Actor Charlie Sheen and wife Brooke Mueller signed divorce papers late last month. Speculation of an impending divorce surfaced last December when Sheen was arrested for alleged domestic abuse.

Per the 41-page agreement, Sheen and Mueller will share joint custody of their two children. Mueller will receive primary custody, and Sheen will get the kids every other weekend.

Sheen and Mueller signed a 60-page prenuptial agreement that provided Mueller with an annual allowance ($300,000) as well as a stake in Sheen’s lavish Beverly Hills mansion, and described in detail how the couple’s assets would be divided in the event of divorce.
Mueller waived spousal support but she will receive $55,000 a month in child support. She requested that the amount paid for their two children be equal to the amount that Sheen pays for his two children with ex-wife Denise Richards.

They have also agreed to not disclose any negative personal information about one another’s alleged drug or sexual affairs to the media.

The divorce agreement papers were signed just hours after a vehicle belonging to Charlie Sheen was found in a ravine near the actor’s Hollywood Hills home. In the early morning, the actor’s luxury vehicle was found lying about 100 feet over the side of Mulholland Drive.

The car was abandoned when police arrived. Sheen has claimed he was unaware the car was missing. The car accident is almost identical to an incident that occurred in February.

Lindsay Lohan Begins 90-day Jail Sentence

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Lindsay Lohan recently received a 90-day jail sentence, after violating the probation she received for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol in 2007.

Lohan was originally arrested in May 2007 for crashing her Mercedes Benz; this was the actress’s first offense.  She was arrested again in late July 2007 for driving recklessly while under the influence.

Lohan is currently fulfilling her sentence in the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, where she is not allowed to access the Internet, she is prohibited from using a cell phone and she is not allowed to smoke.

After her release from jail, she will have to go through an alcohol rehabilitation program for three months, as the judge ordered.

If you or a loved one has been arrested for driving under the influence it is important that you contact a DUI lawyer. A DUI charge can have very serious consequences, even for a first-time offender. An experienced DUI attorney will fight to maintain your freedom and help get you on the road to recovery.

FDA Committee Delivers Split Verdict on the Diabetes Drug Avandia

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Avandia, which was put on the market in 1999, is also known as rosiglitazone. Avandia is a drug taken once or twice daily to manage type 2 diabetes. It is prescribed to those who need more than one medicine to help treat their diabetes in different ways.

Most of the committee members voted to leave Avandia on the market but recommended that changes be made in how it is prescribed. Additionally, 12 out of the committee’s 33 members voted to pull Avandia off the market altogether, while only three supported leaving it on the market with its current labeling. Seven voted to add stiffer warnings to the current label, and 10 wanted both stiffer language and restrictions on its use.

A 2007 study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, linked the drug to a 43 percent higher chance of heart attack as well as in increased risk of stroke and, in some cases, death. After that, federal regulators mandated that GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) add more warnings to the drug’s labeling.

GSK is facing more than 13,000 legal challenges, and has already awarded $60 million to settle some of them. A Philadelphia court will hear the first American cases in October.
